How Traian Băsescu says that he would act in Nicușor Dan's place and the forecast he makes. “I give you writing”

Traian Băsescu declared that a president must find “negotiated solutions if possible” to resolve political crises, but “if not, forcing them through a certain channel”.

On Friday evening, on B1 TV, the former president said that he is ready to give “in writing” that “PSD will pass the government through the vote of the Parliament” if President Nicușor Dan entrusts them with the mandate to form the new Government.

“If PSD is given a mandate, PSD will pass the government through the vote of the Parliament, I give you in writing, because they know how to negotiate majorities, by tradition. I don't praise them, I don't like them, but I can't help but admit that, as many times as they needed majorities, they created them”, said Traian Băsescu.

At the beginning of next week, President Nicușor Dan called for consultations with the parliamentary parties for the formation of the new Government. The discussions will start with the PSD, from 9 o'clock. Today, the head of state stated that he will not make an announcement on Monday or Tuesday about the future candidate for the position of prime minister.

How Traian Băsescu would proceed if he were still president

The former head of state claims that he would also have appointed a liberal as a candidate for the position of prime minister, given that the protocol of the broken coalition stipulated that the PNL would be prime minister until April 2027.

“I would try, instead of Mr. President Nicușor, to give the mandate to a liberal. According to the agreement with the PSD, it is the time of the liberals. On occasion, I would tell them, if you want, welcome to the government, if not, no, and I would corner the liberals, and the PSD, and I would send them to Parliament with a liberal nominated as prime minister,” said Traian Băsescu.

He said he didn't think the PNL would break up if another liberal, not the party's president, Ilie Bolojan, were nominated for prime minister.

“I doubt it. If you nominate a prime minister, how can it break, why should the PNL break? (…) Mr. Bolojan can become the president of the Senate and everyone would be placed in an acceptable position (…). Why can't Bolojan remain the president of the party and president of the Senate?”, added Traian Băsescu.
