Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Tuesday that she and two of her ministers were denounced at the International Criminal Court (CPI) for alleged genocide complicity in relation to Israel's offensive in the Gaza strip, reports Reuters.

In an interview with the public television station RAI, Meloni said that the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, and the head of Italian diplomacy, Antonio Tajani, were denounced and said that she “believes” that it happened in the case of Roberto Cingolani, the head of the Leonardo defense group.

“I don't think there is another similar case in the world or in history,” Meloni said.

She did not give details about who filed the trial against her and the ministers in the Rome office.

Italy was the scene of a series of demonstrations in the last week, which brought hundreds of thousands of people to the street to protest from the mass murders in Gaza, many of the protesters aimed at Meloni.

His right -wing government, generally a firm supporter of Israel, recently distanced from what he calls the “disproportionate” offensive in the Gaza Strip, but did not break any commercial or diplomatic links and did not recognize the state of Palestine.

The Israeli attack on the Palestinian coastal enclave began after, according to Israeli data, members of the Palestinian militant group killed about 1,200 people and took 251 hostages in a south of Israel, fixed 2 years ago, on October 7, 2023.

The response of Israel led to the death of over 67,000 people, according to health officials in Gaza.

Israel denies the accusations of genocide.

Meloni also stated that she is “amazed” by the accusation of complicity in genocide, because “anyone who knows the situation knows that Italy has not authorized new weapons deliveries to Israel after October 7.”

In response to her comments, a spokesman for Leonardo said that Roberto Cingolani has already expressed the company's position in an interview with the newspaper Corriere della Sera last month. In the respective interview, Cingolani said that the suggestion that the company leads is complicit to genocide is “a very serious staging.”

In separate comments, Meloni said she believes that US President Donald Trump has come to the conclusion that Russia is not interested in a peace agreement with Ukraine.

“In the face of this refusal of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin (…) The only way to follow is to exert pressure, to continue to support Ukraine and to impose sanctions,” to say the head of the Italian government.
