Almost everyone knows about this golden spice that is added to curries or lattes. But few people know that Soviet scientists also called it “the spice of longevity.”
When there were few medicines, Soviet medicine looked for natural ways to strengthen the body. In 1974, a study was conducted at the Institute of Nutrition of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences: adding turmeric to the diet extended the life of laboratory animals by 25–30%. Scientists have found that turmeric cleanses the blood, improves metabolism and protects blood vessels.
Soviet researchers studied the phenomenon of the peoples of India and South Asia, where turmeric is consumed daily. They suffered almost no cardiovascular disease.
The reason for this feature is the substance curcumin, which reduces inflammation, improves liver function, slows down cell aging and protects blood vessels from cholesterol.
How does turmeric affect cells?
In the 1980s, scientists from the Soviet Institute of Biochemistry called curcumin a “youth regulator.” It activates antioxidant enzymes, increases collagen production, and maintains sugar and cholesterol levels. Thanks to this, the cells remain “alive” and energetic longer.
With age, metabolism slows down, blood vessels lose elasticity, and blood thickens. Turmeric helps gently thin the blood, supports the liver, improves joints and memory. No wonder it was called the “yellow gold of health” in Soviet recipe collections.
How to use curcumin correctly
This spice is better absorbed with black pepper and fats. That is why they advised to drink “golden milk”:
1 glass of warm milk, ½ tsp. turmeric, a pinch of pepper, a spoon of honey. This cocktail before bed will improve your sleep, your skin will become fresher, and your blood vessels will become stronger.
Bones and heart protected
Soviet rheumatologists have proven that turmeric strengthens bones, reduces inflammation in joints and protects the heart by stabilizing cholesterol.
Only 0.5 tsp. per day is enough for prevention. Add to cereals, soups, vegetables or make a paste with honey and lemon.
After the collapse of the USSR, many studies were forgotten. Now world science confirms: curcumin really slows down aging and protects blood vessels. Drink golden milk, add turmeric to your food, combine with pepper – and your body will receive soft, natural protection.
