In the mornings, you often want to eat something tasty, but you don’t want to turn the kitchen into a battlefield. There is a wonderful recipe that helps out on any weekday. You only need three products, one frying pan and ten minutes of personal time. No flour, no eggs, no grater, which then takes a long time to wash – just grate, fry and enjoy. The recipe was shared by the author of the YouTube channel “Panna Lesia” (12+).
What you will need
- Potatoes – 3 pieces (about 350 g)
- Cheese – 3 slices (50 g)
- Salt and black pepper – to taste
- Green onions – optional
How to cook
The potatoes are grated on a coarse grater. Salt, pepper and, if desired, add a little chopped green onion. Heat a frying pan with a small amount of oil and lay out half of the grated potatoes in the form of a flatbread. Fry until golden brown. Then the flatbread is turned over and two pieces of cheese are placed on top.
The remaining potatoes are distributed on top. The flatbread is turned over again and fried until golden brown. The end result is a crispy, chewy, cheesy and very filling dish that will definitely be included in the list of favorite quick breakfasts.
You can serve it with sour cream, fresh herbs, or just like that – it will be delicious either way.
Questions and answers
Can I use a different type of cheese?
Yes, almost any hard or semi-hard cheese that melts well will do. For example, gouda, Russian, mozzarella or cheddar – the final taste of the flatbread will depend on the taste of the cheese.
What to do if the potatoes leak a lot of juice?
You can lightly squeeze the grated potatoes with your hands or let them sit for a couple of minutes and then drain off the excess liquid. Otherwise, the cake may fall apart or be too wet.
Can this dish be prepared without oil?
Without any oil at all, the flatbread will most likely stick to the pan. But you can use a minimal amount or a frying pan with a good non-stick coating and spray it with oil from a spray bottle.
