A surprising gadget on the list of British sanctions. Helps the Russians in the war

In the new package, announced on April 23, covering 150 new trade sanctions towards Russia, Great Britain cut off Moscow access to various technologiesincluding software that allows you to search and operate new oil and gas wells.

– Today we use our rights to suppress the Russian war machinesave the life of Ukrainians and protect British companies from cynical use by Russia – said Stephen Doughty, a British minister for sanctions.

New funds come into force immediately and reflect the greater emphasis on the British government on trade sanctions, not just financial sanctions. The Office for implementing trade sanctions (OTSI) was created in October 2024 and is subject to the Business and Trade Department.

The latest package largely focuses on cutting off innovative software and technology from the Russian defense and energy sector, including Video game controllers used to pilot drones in the war against Ukraineas well as on the transfer of technology used to produce goods with a common high priority. They include electronic components, such as amplifiers and circuits, which the government describes as “critical” for Russian military development.
