Canadian actress Evangeline Lilly has revealed on social media that she has brain damage after suffering a concussion from a fall on a boulder last year. The “Lost” actress says that “almost every area” of her brain is functioning at a diminished capacity, Variety reports.
“I'm entering this new year, the Year of the Horse, with some bad news related to my concussion,” the Marvel actress said in a video she posted on her Instagram account. “A lot of you have asked me how I'm feeling. A lot of you have asked about the brain scans you heard I had. And the results from the scans came back and they showed that almost every area of my brain was functioning at a diminished capacity,” the 46-year-old actress said.
“But now my job is to get to the root of it with the doctors and then start down the road of hard work to fix it, which I'm not looking forward to because I feel like everything I do is hard work,” added Lilly. “But that's okay. My cognitive decline since smashing my face has helped slow me down and helped me have a more peaceful 2025 ending,” she added.
Lilly wrote in the post's description: “The verdict is in… I really have brain damage behind me [traumatismului cranio-cerebral]. It's comforting to know that my cognitive decline isn't just pre-menopausal, but it's disconcerting to know what an uphill battle it will be to try to reverse the impairments. Thank you all for always asking, always caring and for your continued prayers.”
The famous actress from the series “Lost” starred in huge grossing films
Lilly played Kate Bishop in all six seasons of the show Lostwhich aired from 2004 to 2010. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Drama Series, but those who haven't seen the series will likely recognize her from her many roles in famous big screen films.
Among other things, she played Tauriel in the trilogy The Hobbit directed by Peter Jackson – appearing in the last two feature films, The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies -, but also in movies like The Hurt Locker or South of Heaven.

She is also well known for her role as Hope van Dyne / Wasp in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting the character in Ant-Man (2015) and reprising the role in Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023).
Avengers: Endgame became the highest-grossing film of all time upon its release in 2019, but James Cameron's first feature film Avatar returned to the top ticket sales position of all time after being re-released in a special edition in 2021.
Lilly revealed in a post last June that she was retiring from acting indefinitely, writing: “Stepping back from what seems like the obvious choice (wealth and fame) can be scary at times, but stepping into your dharma replaces fear with fulfillment. I may return to Hollywood one day, but for now, this is where I belong.”
Dharma, which means “purpose of life” in Sanskrit, is an Indian spiritual and religious term. According to believers, from dharma springs inner harmony and lasting satisfaction.
