Wave of emotion and political reactions in Israel, after the suicide of a Hamas massacre survivor of October 7

The suicide of Roei Shalev, a survivor of the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023 at the Nova Music Festival, aroused a wave of emotions in Israel, writes Agerpres.

Shalev's body, whose girlfriend and best friend had been killed on October 7, was discovered on Friday night in his carbonized car in northern Tel Aviv, according to the Israeli media, a few hours after the new cessation of fire in the war between Israel and the Palestinian group.

“I can no longer bear this pain, burn from the inside (…). I just want this pain to stop,” he wrote a few hours before on his Instagram account.

Several political personalities from the opposition, who, contrary to the majority of the members of the government coalition, continue to use social networks during the Shabat, have paid tribute to him.

Some of them have appealed to more care for the survivors of the attack on October 7, a request that returns periodically in the Israeli public debate.

“It is time for the state of Israel to treat those who suffer from mental health problems as heroes, not as statistics,” Avigdor Lieberman, the leader of the nationalist party Israel Beiteinou, former minister, reacted.

“Royi could not bear the pain, but others are still there, fighting, facing the situation, trying to live. We have to offer them all the possible help so that they do not feel alone,” commented Yair Golan, the leader of the left “Democrats”.

Their girlfriend died, best friend, mother

Roema Shalev's girlfriend, Mapal Adam, and his best friend, Hili Solomon, were killed under his eyes during the Nova Music Festival, in the south of Israel, while he was injured by the commands from the Gaza strip.

The three young people had tried to hide under the cars when the place where the festival took place was stormed.

With over 370 dead, the Nova Festival was the scene of the worst massacre on October 7, 2023 during the unprecedented attack of Hamas, which triggered the war in the Gaza strip.

In total, the attack resulted in the death of 1,219 people on the Israeli side, mostly civilians, according to official data.

Two weeks after the massacre, Roei Shalev's mother committed suicide. According to several Israeli media, she was very close to her son's friend and was deeply affected by her death.
