What about relations with the US after the elections in Hungary? The opposition leader spoke up

“It's always good news when a top diplomat from one of Hungary's most important allies visits our country,” said the leader of the opposition party, Tisza, in an entry.

What relations does the opposition in Hungary have with the US?

Who invites the US Secretary of State to Budapest?

When will the elections be held in Hungary?

Who is the leader of the Tisza party?

“We cordially invite the US Secretary of State to Budapest on October 23, on the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Then he will be received by another Orban – Anita Orban (candidate for head of diplomacy of the opposition Tisza – PAP). However, our commitment to strengthening Hungarian-American relations will not change,” wrote Peter Magyar.

On Monday, during the joint press conference of Marco Rubio and Viktor Orban, the head of American diplomacy several times emphasized the importance of the Hungarian leader's personal relationship with US President Donald Trump. Moreover, the US Secretary of State noted that it influenced the “golden age” of Hungarian-American relations, as both politicians called them.

— We are opening this golden era not only thanks to the harmony of our nations, but also thanks to the relationship between Prime Minister Orban and President Trump. It is important to understand how important the relations of states are to the relations of their leaders, Rubio emphasized.

“President Trump is deeply committed to your success because your success is our success,” Rubio said, turning to Orban. — The United States wants Hungary to develop because it is in the American national interest – especially as long as Viktor Orban is the country's leader – said the head of American diplomacy.

A clear vote of support for Orban from Trump

Answering a question about relations with Budapest if the opposition wins the April elections, the US Secretary of State noted that “President (Trump) and Prime Minister Orban have an exceptionally close relationship that has a real impact on our bilateral relations.” — I won't speculate about the future. What happens (during the elections) depends on Hungarians. But, without further ado, let me repeat that the president and the prime minister have a very close relationship, Rubio emphasized.

He added that an example of the influence of leaders' personal contacts on Washington's actions was the exclusion of Hungary from sanctions imposed by the US on the Russian energy sector. — This relationship (of Trump and Orban) supports the president's decisions and will remain so as long as it is an (important) factor in the bilateral relations of both countries, Rubio noted.

Earlier, Trump himself openly supported Orban before the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12. Most independent polls give Tisza an advantage of several to a dozen or so percent of votes.
