The device struck by a row of palm trees and a staircase near the Pacific Coast highway, under the shocked eyes of tourists.

Five people were transported to the hospital, including the two people in the helicopter, who were safe from the wreck. Three other people on the street suffered injuries, but details about their condition were not made public immediately.

The incident happened around 2:00 pm, near the intersection between Pacific Coast Highway and Huntington Street. Videos made by witnesses show the helicopter initially floating above the beach, then out of control and collapsing between palm trees.

The helicopter was involved in a charitable event scheduled for the next day. The cause of the accident has not yet been established.

The authorities also pointed out that in the last days there have been other similar incidents in the US, which underlines the need to respect safety measures in leisure flights and public events.
