The Nobel Committee is afraid of Trump's reaction to a possible refusal to the world award – Bloomberg

According to the agency, the independence of the Committee is “subjected to testing” by the White House and US President Donald Trump. Experts note that the committee was not subjected to direct political pressure, but, obviously, “several campaigns are being conducted, both public and private.”

Steve Witkoff, a special messenger of Trump in the Middle East, raised the issue of nominating the US president to a prize in private conversations with European colleagues, informed sources told Bloomberg. The Secretary of State Marco Rubio also periodically advocated Trump's candidacy.

On September 1, Trump himself said he did not expect to get a reward, although he believes that he did enough for this. When asked by the interviewer about whether he has a desire to get a reward, Trump answered briefly, which is not.

The situation causes serious concern in Norway, Vloomberg notes. One senior official who wished to remain anonymous joked that he was thinking of taking sick leave on October 10 due to fears of the possible reaction of an unpredictable American president if he does not win.

The Nobel Prize of the World is appointed five members of the committee chosen by the Norwegian parliament. The protocols of his meetings and decisions are classified for 50 years. If Trump does not receive a bonus, you will have to wait half a century to find out if he was in the 2025 short list, journalists point out.
