The suspended mayor of Mangalia Cristian Radu remains in preventive arrest for another 30 days, the Constanta Court decided on Tuesday, but the court's decision is not final and can be challenged at the Constanta Court of Appeal.

The Constanta Court on Tuesday judged the request of prosecutors to extend the preventive arrest for Cristian Radu, the suspended mayor of Mangalia, accused of taking bribes.
The court decided to admit the prosecutors' proposal and extend the preventive arrest measure for another 30 days, writes News.
The decision of the magistrates is not final and can be appealed to the Constanta Court of Appeal.
Cristian Radu was preventively arrested at the end of August, for bribery. The next day he was suspended from the position of mayor of Mangalia.
DNA prosecutors have announced, in a press release, that the mayor of Mangalia is accused of five bribery offenses, one of them in a continuous form, and a money laundering offense.
“Between 2020-2025, the defendant Radu Cristian, as mayor of Mangalia, would have claimed and received, both directly and through an intermediary, the total amount of 645,000 euros, in connection with the issuance of urban documents and with the initiation of local council decisions, as well as in connection with other steps related to the mayor “DNA prosecutors announced.
The investigators said that, between 2022-2024, Cristian Radu would have claimed the total amount of 80,000 euros, of which he would have received through an intermediary the amount of 42,333 euros, to let various persons carry out trade on the beach or in the area of the Mangalia tourist port without being fined or closed by the Mangalia Local Police. The amount of money would have been received in the form of purchases of luxury clothing.
DNA prosecutors also established that in 2023 Cristian Radu claimed and received the equivalent of the amount of 500,000 euros by reducing the purchase price of the assets of a commercial company, for the assignment of rental contracts regarding land in the Mangalia tourist port.
Also, in 2023, he is accused of claiming 50,000 euros, of which he would have received the total amount of 150,000 lei so that two persons would not be controlled by the officials within the Mangalia City Hall during the construction of a building in the Neptune Station.
Cristian Radu is also accused that, in the first two months of this year, he received 50,000 from a person to obtain from the town hall a certificate of attestation of the building/extension of the construction without a building permit for a building located in the Saturn resort.
“At the same time, the defendant Radu Cristian would have concealed and hidden much of the amounts of money mentioned above, by the purchase in 2023 of a hotel from CAP AURORA”the source said.
