The largest pension in Romania exceeded in July the amount of 98,000 net lei (19,600 euros). In August, after the government imposed the payment of the health contribution, in the amount of 10%, the largest pension in the public system decreased by 9,506 lei, thus reaching the net value of 88,558 lei (17,700 euros), according to news.ro, which cites data from government sources.

The first 10 pensions in Romania exceed the net value of 10,000 euros a month and all were obtained on a contributory basis. The persons who receive these amounts have been active in the banking system and insurance, say the sources cited.

In July, the largest pension in the country had a gross value of 108,627 lei. According to the law, the first 3,000 lei from any pension are not taxed. Therefore, to obtain the net value, from this amount, 3,000 lei were decreased, then a 10% tax on the remaining amount was applied. It results in a pension of 98,064 net lei (19,600 euros). The entire amount was obtained on the basis of contributivity.

Since August 1, the Bolojan Government has imposed a contribution to the public health system (CASS) for all pensioners. However, as in the case of the classic tax, the first 3,000 lei were exempted from this new tax.

Therefore, the largest pension in Romania, which in July amounts to 98,000 net lei, decreased in August to the amount of 88,558 net lei (17,700 euros). This resulted a difference of 9,506 lei, about 1,900 euros.

With the fiscal amendments from August 1, the net amount is calculated by applying the CASS quota first, then the 10% tax on the remaining amount.

The second pension as a net value in Romania reached, in July, at the value of 85,367 lei (just over 17,000 euros). From August 1, the value of the pension decreased by approximately 1,650 euros, reaching the amount of 77,130 net lei (15,400 euros).

The podium of the largest pensions in the country was completed in July with the amount of 81,292 lei, net value. In other words, 16,250 euros a month. According to the new taxes imposed by the ruling coalition, the pension fell to 73,463 net lei, so 14,700 euros per month.

The last pension in the Top 10 amounted to 56,689 net lei last month, around 11,300 euros per month. From August 1, the amount went down to 51,320 net lei, 10,260 net euros, so a decrease in revenues by over 1,000 euros per month. Thus, the 10 largest pensions in Romania, even after the imposition of CASS, are currently exceeding the amount of 10,000 euros a month, the highest value being 17,700 euros.

All these pensions are obtained on the basis of contributivity, so they did not fall into the category of special pensions, where the state offers a monthly financial surplus.

The average pension in Romania is currently 2,814 lei (560 euros), according to official data from the Pension House. The number of pensioners exceeds 4.5 million.
