The head of the Emergency Department, Raed Arafat, says that the latest studies have shown the existence of a “certain degree of burnout” in part of the staff in the Emergency Reception Units, but that the situation is better than expected.
Asked if at DSU there are statistics on the Burnout rate among emergency doctors, Raed Arafat replied that there are studies done on this, but that he cannot specify what the percentages would be.
“The latest studies have shown a degree of burnout to a percentage of staff. I did not have the percentages in my head, but you know that the situation was much better than we expected it to be, when the studies were done. The studies must be repeated, they must be taken in dynamics,” said Raed Arafat, on Saturday, in Alba Iulia.
He said that the extent to which this syndrome can be reduced or eliminated is “to have the appropriate staff” in order to reduce the pressure on them.
“We made a reputation that was wrongly explained to the young generations”
He claimed that, from the banks of the faculty, young people who study medicine are told, by some doctors, to avoid choosing as a specialty emergency medicine on the grounds that “they will not have life”.
“We made a reputation that was wrongly explained to the young generations. We all came out, at first, and said,” Woe to it, it kills us, it ends! ” Yes, if we are few, the work is very stressful, if we are sufficient, then the work is distributed and the less effort becomes. So the encouragement of young doctors to come to this specialty must be from the banks of the faculty ”, said Raed Arafat, quoted by News.ro.
He said that there are doctors of old people who discourage young people to choose emergency medicine:
“Unfortunately, I say it openly, many of the colleagues tell us how in college, in different sections where they do the internships, their advice are to avoid emergency medicine, by colleagues from other specialties. Yes, the tips given:” Leave it, that it is not good, you will not have life! “. Few who work in it. “
