US President Donald Trump criticized the intention of the French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron on Friday to recognize a Palestinian state at the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in September, reports Reuters.

“What he says does not matter,” Trump told the reporters present at the White House. “He is a very good guy. I like him, but this statement has no weight,” added the American leader.

Macron announced on Thursday that France will recognize the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in New York in September.

“He is another type of man. It's ok. He's a team player, something like that. But here's the good news: what he says doesn't matter. He won't change anything,” Trump concluded.

France wants to relaunch the solution of the “two states”

President Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday that France will recognize the state of Palestine on the occasion of the UN General Assembly.

“Fidel to his historical commitment to a fair and sustainable peace in the Middle East, I decided to recognize the state of Palestine. I will make the solemn announcement at the United Nations General Assembly next September,” wrote the French head on X and Instagram, quoted by AFP, according to Agerpres.

France will then co-defend, together with Saudi Arabia, an international conference of the heads of state and government meant to relaunch the so-called “two states”, Palestinian and Israeli. “The most urgent thing today is to put an end to the war in Gaza and save the civilian population,” the French leader said on the X platform.
