Horațiu Potra, already in preventive detention for 30 days in a case of crimes under the constitutional order, was brought under escort to the headquarters of the General Prosecutor's Office, on Monday, to be questioned by prosecutors in connection with the money earned in Congo.
In July, the General Prosecutor's Office seized Horațiu Potra's assets, namely 26 million lei, 28 kilograms of gold, 12 buildings in Bucharest and Sibiu, in a case in which Potra, who fought in the Congo, is accused of tax evasion, embezzlement with particularly serious consequences and money laundering, according to Agerpres.

The prosecutors claim that Horațiu Potra obtained, between June 2023 and November 2024, consistent revenues of 72 million lei from the provision of security management services on the territory of the Democratic Republic of Congo, controlling the company SC GPH Legion Africa Role SRL. The money obtained in Congo was transferred, through a series of fictitious commercial and financial circuits, to personal accounts or legal entities registered in the United Arab Emirates.
In the same file, three collaborators were charged who helped Potra transfer the money to the United Arab Emirates, without paying taxes to the Romanian state: Silli Rodolphe Paul Antoine – French citizen, through the Rodho Strategy LLC company from the United Arab Emirates; Daniel – Simion Potra – GPH La Role Ltd company; Dionisie Moldovan – representative of the companies Standovla Invest LLC and Ralf Golf Role Services FZCO (both registered in the United Arab Emirates).
Potra, brought to the country and arrested
On November 21, Horaţiu Potra was pre-arrested for 30 days, for attempting to commit actions against the constitutional order, non-compliance with the regime of weapons and ammunition and non-compliance with the regime of explosive materials, by the magistrates of the Bucharest Court of Appeal. The same preventive measure was taken in the case of Potra's son and grandson.
The three fled Romania at the beginning of the year, being wanted internationally. Arrest warrants were issued in their names in February. They were arrested on September 24 at Dubai airport, just before boarding a flight to Moscow. On November 20, they were brought into the country.
The leader of the mercenaries is being sued by the General Prosecutor's Office, together with the former candidate for the 2024 presidential elections, Călin Georgescu, and another 20 people, in a case regarding the commission of actions against the constitutional order.
On the day he sent the case to court, the general prosecutor Alex Florenta stated that the Romanian authorities have information that he is taking steps to obtain asylum in the Russian Federation.
