The Russian department explained such a decision by the fact that Markov participated in the creation of the materials of “foreign regents” and the distribution of their messages, as well as “distributed inaccurate information” on the decisions of the authorities of the country of the aggressor of the Russian Federation.
Markov in the commentary “Caution Media” called the “error and slander” its inclusion in the register.
“Firstly, I am not a foreign agent, and secondly, I have no contacts. Well, sometimes they can somehow … be mistaken. I don’t know anything about it,” the pro-government political scientist reacted.
As Medusa indicated, Markov is a regular participant in socio-political talk shows that go out on Russian federal channels and radio stations.
In July, he was criticized in the Russian Federation for participating in the Shushinsky global media forum in Azerbaijan, where the president of this country Ilham Aliyev performed.
The forum was held against the backdrop of the scandal between Moscow and Baku after Russia shot down Azerbaijan Airlines airline in December 2024 in December 2024. Markov recognized this fact.

The legislation on “foreign agents” appeared in Russia in 2012. At first, the local ministe entered only the organization into the register, and since 2020 he began to bring individuals there.
