In Japan, evacuation after alerts about tsunami. People protect themselves on the roofs

On Wednesday, July 30, a strong earthquake occurred on the east coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Far East of Russia. Initially, the American geological service (USGS) said that the shock magnitude was 8.0, but after subsequent analyzes it was raised to 8.8. A series of secondary shocks took place after the main shock. The magnitude of the strongest of them reached 7.0. As a result of the shock in the Pacific, waves up to 4 meters high.

In response to the threat, the American services issued a warning against the Tsunami for the state of Hawaii. It is estimated that waves can reach up to 3.5 meters there. Alarm sirens in many places, a residents of quays of the areas were called to evacuate.

The warnings also apply to southern Alaska, the Aleucki Peninsula and British Colombia in Canada.

Japanese meteorological administration informed that tsunami waves can reach height up to 3 meters. The Japanese authorities immediately issued evacuation orders for the inhabitants of the wide lane of the East Coast – from Hokkaido in the north to the Wakayama prefecture in the south. Due to the threat, the work of the Higashidori nuclear power plant was suspended. Employees of the nuclear power plant in Fukushima, which suffered as a result of the Tsunami in 2011, were also evacuated.

The Japanese authorities issued an evacuation order for over 1.9 million people. According to BBC, about 10.5 thousand of them are the inhabitants of Hokkaido, where the first waves of Tsunami hit the coast of the island.

On recordings made available by the Reuters agency You can see people protecting themselves on the roofs of houses. Some of them observed the development of situations from viewpoints, seeking shelter in the above areas.

Due to the threat of tsunami, the action was also taken in the Kanagawa prefecture. At the JR Kamakura station, messages calling for passengers were posted for immediate evacuation, and the ENODEN trains were suspended.
