According to the Minister of Health of the Kamchati Country, Oleg Mielnikov, people were injured, escaping from the houses – one person jumped out of the window, another woman was injured in the building of the new airport.
The Russian Academy of Sciences said that secondary shocks up to 7.5 will last at least a month. The authorities formed a crisis staff, shortened working day in state institutions and announced a threat of tsunami. The Far East of Russia froze and waits in suspense.
After the main earthquake, 30 more felt shocks with a strength of 2-5 degrees were recorded. Cracks appeared in the walls of hospitals and social facilities in Petropavlovsk Kamchatki. The minister for the extraordinary situations of the Kamchatka Country Sergei Lebedev announced that a wave of four meters was recorded in the Elizów region. Governor of the Kamchati Country Vladimir Sołodow said that “today's earthquake was a serious test” and called residents to not take a shoreline. Specialists advise against visiting coastal areas.

In the region of the northern Kuril Islands, a state of earth was introduced after the earthquake with a strength of 7.9 on the Richter scale and three waves of Tsunami, which hit the coast of the island of Paramuszir. Several buildings, chimneys and ventilation windows were damaged.
“This is certainly an amazing event,” said Russian sejsmologists. This is probably the strongest earthquake in the world since March 2011, when the north-eastern coast of Japan with a magnitude of 9.0 was an earthquake.

The threat of tsunami was announced in different countries of the world – in Japan, Hawaii, the United States, Mexico, Chile, Peru. Tsunami, 30 cm high, reached the northern part of Japan, fast trains were stopped in the center and northeast of the country. No victims were noted. The coast guard ordered the ships in Hawaii to leave the ports because of the threat of tsunami.
After the main earthquake, there were over 50 secondary shocks, some of them were tangible – the geophysical service of the Russian Academy of Sciences said. Russian sejsmologists warned that “strong, tangible secondary shocks will last for at least another month” – including possible secondary shocks with a magnitude 7.5.
“Such secondary shocks can cause intensity fluctuations from five to six points in Petropavlovsk Kamchatki and dangerous tsunami,” said Russian Sejsmologists.
