President Nicuşor Dan said, in a press conference held on Thursday night in Brussels after attending the European Council, that the recently invested executive in Bucharest is the result of a balance of political power from the elections. “The priority was to give Romania a government supported by a stable majority,” he said.
The head of state was asked if he was pleased with what the new government looks, given that he stated when the oath that the Romanian society wants new people in the future executive, but many of the old ministers and politicians have returned to office.
“I think the society has been worth something for 35 years. Now, to what extent the balance of power in which the vote matters most, obviously, but also the social pressure on different areas … It is a balance of power and a hierarchy of priorities. The priority for this moment was to give Romania a government supported by a stable majority.
Asked also if he had a word to say in the formation of the Government, respectively at the proposals of ministers, President Nicușor Dan replied that he had a say “in the program (of governance) and, above all, in defining the tax variants”.
About the Five Deputy Prime Minister government
“And the fact that we have five deputy prime ministers is also a matter of negotiation, it is very important especially in our relationship with the financial markets to have a government supported by a stable majority, and this was appreciated by the people we discussed here in Brussels for example,” said Dan, answering another question.
But he also emphasized, related to this, that when the cabinet of each of the deputy prime ministers will be established if the government apparatus is more bush than before.
