Austerity did not reach the party premises. With six other assumptions of liability on the table, the Bolojan government has not yet reached the money from subsidies for politicians, and millions of euros are flowing

The Bolojan Government has been responsible for the Parliament on Monday for five packages of fiscal measures aimed at reducing the budget deficit. Another package, the one regarding the local administration, has remained in suspense and causes a crisis in the coalition. A first package has already been approved in July. In all the seven employment of liability, the ruling coalition does not reduce the subsidy for political parties in 2025.
Each month of 2025, at least 19 million lei for eight parties left. PSD, the party with the best electoral results in 2024, receives the largest amount, followed by gold, PNL and USR.
On the list we also find sauce, but also non -parliamentary parties, such as the strength of the right and PMP, which have the right to subsidy due to the score from the local or European Parliament.
The total amount collected so far by parties is over 150 million lei (30 million euros). By the end of the year, if nothing changes, the parties will receive 284 million lei (56.8 million euros)
Between January – August 2025, the parties received a grant worth:
- PSD: 51.4 million lei (10.2 million euros)
- Gold: 30.4 million lei (6 million euros)
- PNL: 28 million lei (5.6 million euros)
- USR: 19.8 million lei (3.9 million euros)
- SOS: 13.2 million lei (2.64 million euros)
- Can: 10.6 million lei (2.1 million euros)
The PMP received just over 700,000 lei for the first eight months of 2025, and the force of the right almost 650,000 lei.
Follows other millions of lei
The next subsidy will be collected by parties the following days, for September.
The Bolojan government did not operate any budgetary rectification in August, so the subsidy for September remains the full value for each party. If the amounts remain equal to those of August, each party will receive from the budget:
- PSD: 6.3 million lei
- Gold: 3.7 million lei
- PNL: 3.4 million lei
- USR: 2.4 million lei
- SOS: 1.6 million lei
- Can: 1.3 million lei
- PMP: 89 thousand lei
- The strength of the right: 84 thousand lei
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan promised in July that the subsidy for parties will be reduced to the budget rectification. So far no rectification has been operated on, the estimation being that it will take place in mid -September, if the government falls.
Hotnews asked the leaders of PSD, PNL and USR on August 21, but also the Minister of Finance, the reduction of the subsidy for parties after the budget rectification. No one responded to Hotnews request until the material is published.
Money secretly go to the press and propaganda
The data consulted by Hotnews show that the parties have continued to direct the largest amounts to the press and propaganda. PSD and PNL have been refusing to answer questions about the final destination of money for years, with what sites or televisions have collaborated for political advertising, although they use public money in their activity.
The situation of the amounts spent from the subsidy for press and propaganda between January and July 2025 shows the following data, according to the data consulted by Hotnews based on the reports made by the AEP parties:
- PSD: 60.1 million lei
- Gold: 16 million lei
- PNL: 8 million lei
- USR: 4.7 million lei
- Can: 38,500 lei
- Sos: 12,500 lei
The situation for the PSD shows that the payments for the press and propaganda have exceeded the subsidy collected. The data show two large payments in January and February 2025.
The Secretary General of the PSD, Paul Stănescu, refused to specify if the amounts represent arrears from the election campaigns of 2024. Sorin Grindeanu did not want to give any information about the money spent before he became PSD president.
Of the 60 million spent in 2025, the PSD paid 34.6 million lei in January and 5.4 million lei in February. Social Democrats did not respond to the request to explain to which entities directed the money. According to the Snoop.ro investigative site, PSD pays a monthly rate of 1.5 million lei to AMMA print as a result of the contracts concluded for the propaganda materials provided in 2024.
A major expense incurred by the PNL from the money collected is the rate to RAAPPS for the purchase of offices. Almost 1.3 million lei leave for RAAPPS monthly from the money received from the state budget in the form of a subsidy. The Snoop.ro investigative site wrote that the party's debts to a single supplier, AMMA Print, are over 25 million euros.
The parties in the ruling coalition decided in July to reduce the subsidy for parties by 40%, but compared to 2024. Thus, it could reach 230 million lei. The value is comparable to the year 2023, before the election year, when it was 227 million lei.
In 2016, the first year when the new law on the financing of election parties and campaigns was applied, the parties received from the state, as a subsidy, 14.5 million lei.
