President Nicușor Dan announced on Thursday night that, during the meeting he had, previously during the day, with the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in the margin of the European Council held in Brussels, the discussions focused on “the economic reforms that Romania has committed to undertake in the next period”.

“In the margin of the #EUCO meeting (European Council, no), we discussed with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von Der Leyen, about the economic reforms that Romania has committed to undertake in the next period, regarding the fiscal and budgetary measures and the revision of the RRF (the mechanism of recovery and resilience – Recovery and Resilience,” Dan, in a message published on the social network X.

“I thanked the president von der Leyen for the constant support and the close cooperation of the European Commission,” added the Romanian state, in the message.

Nicușor Dan and Ursula von der Leyen had a discussion on Thursday, in the margin of the European Council Summit, in which the issue of the excessive budget deficit in Romania and the funds received from the PNR was to be addressed. Asked by the Hotnews correspondent in Brussels by the message he will go to, the president stressed that “we are serious people” and “we will keep our word”.

According to Hotnews correspondent in Brussels, the meeting between the two leaders lasted about 30 minutes on Thursday night.

Nicușor Dan is present, Thursday and Friday, at the first European Council since he took over his mandate as president. The meeting takes place in Brussels, where European leaders will discuss support for Ukraine, the Middle East crisis, European security, economic competitiveness and external relations, according to the Presidential Administration.

The meeting comes one day after the NATO summit in The Hague in which the Allies have committed to significantly increase the expenses for common defense and on continuing support for Ukraine.
