Serious accident between two trams in Dusseldorf: more than 50 people were injured, five in serious condition

Two trams collided on Saturday, May 23, in the German city of Düsseldorf, over 50 people were injured in the accident. Five of them suffered serious injuries.

The German publication Der Spiegel writes that the causes of the accident are not known. The city police spokesman said that no one was in danger of death after the accident.

Firefighters also announced that 27 people were injured, five of whom suffered more serious injuries. Another 28 people were treated at the scene, but were not injured.

The two trams collided at the intersection of Berliner Allee and Graf-Adolf-Straße. No intervention was required for extrication, and most of the passengers were able to get out of the vehicles on their own, a fire official said.

Tram traffic was diverted to detour routes, a spokeswoman for the Rheinbahn transport company announced.

Metro lines were affected. The intervention of the fire brigade has already ended at noon on Saturday.
