Mark Rutte: The new NATO goal is 5 percent GDP for defense


The decision was made in front of the NATO summit in Hague, which will take place on June 24-25. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced that all the countries included in the Alliance agreed that the new goal for this organization would be 5 percent.

The provision regarding such a commitment is to be included in the final declaration of the summit.

Poland is already fulfilling this demand because we intend to spend at least 5 percent in 2026. Defense GDP. Lithuania and Estonia already have such a plan. Latvia wants to reach this level in 2028.

According to Reuters earlier, NATO states reached an agreement on raising the defense expenditure limit on Sunday, overcoming the opposition of Spain.
