The completion of this segment will represent an important step for connecting the highway network in Transylvania and for streamlining traffic in northwestern Romania.

The highway section between Nădășelu and Zimbor, part of the Transilvania Highway (#A3), represents one of the most advanced sections under construction on this strategic road corridor, with a degree of completion of approximately 98%, according to field data and information communicated by the authorities.

Autostrada Transilvania is one of the oldest and most complex road infrastructure projects in Romania, initiated in the early 2000s, with the aim of ensuring a fast connection between the west of the country and the center of Romania, in the direction of Brașov – Târgu Mureș – Cluj – Oradea. Over time, the project has been marked by delays, route changes and fragmentation into several contracts, but in recent years several sections have entered active execution, especially in the Cluj area.

On the Nădășelu – Zimbor segment, which is 30.6 kilometers long, the Romanian builder UMB Spedition is mobilized with a significant number of workers and machines, the works being concentrated in the final phase. Currently, the laying of the asphalt wear layer, the arrangement of short-term parking lots, the completion of rainwater collection and drainage systems, the installation of directional parapets, as well as the installation of ITS systems and road lighting infrastructure are being carried out.

In his public statements, the general director of CNAIR, Cristian Pistol, repeatedly emphasized that the progress of works on this sector is very good, and the project is at a stage where the completion and opening of traffic depends mainly on the last finishing works, testing and reception procedures. He highlighted that these sections are essential for increasing road connectivity in Transylvania and for ensuring the continuity of the highway network.

The value of the contract for this segment is approximately 1.625 billion lei without VAT, the financing being provided by the Transport Program 2021–2027. When the works will be fully completed and received, this section will allow traffic on increasing distances of the highway in the northwest area, contributing to the phased connection of some important segments of the Transilvania Highway, including in correlation with the future openings between Nădășelu and Poarta Sălajului.

Overall, the Nădășelu – Zimbor project is considered an important step in unlocking a historic section of the Transylvania Highway, with a direct impact on regional mobility and economic development in Transylvania.
