Ukraine faces a shortage of medicines in the coming weeks. The media found out the reason

According to the online publication’s interlocutors, 20% of the month’s supply of medicines was stored there. The shock could create the threat of drug shortages, the article said.

The distribution of medicines is shared by two largest companies – BaDM and Optima-Pharm; they control 85% of the market, writes EP. The central warehouse of Optima-Pharm was destroyed by the invaders on October 25. After the attack, distributors suspended the delivery of drugs from pharmaceutical factories and to a second warehouse in the Kiev region, located in the suburbs, journalists say.

Optima-Pharm, according to estimates from its representatives, lost $100 million (UAH 4.2 billion) or 5% of the distributor’s turnover for 2024. The company told EP that the volume of destroyed products is about 20% of the monthly supply of medicines throughout Ukraine.

ED interlocutors also noted that the greatest intangible damage caused by Russian shelling is the destruction of databases. They contained information about supplies, logistics routes and the needs of pharmacy chains with which the distributor cooperates.
