Sedentarism and work from home, a phenomenon that has become popular in pandemic, are the main reasons why young men, under 40, go to a doctor with serious cardiovascular problems, explains Dr. Alexandru Badiu, cardiologist in the Regina Maria network, in an interview supported by the Medical Clinic for Golazo.
Cardiac disorders appear early and more and more often in young patients, who have not turned 40, “already quite sick”, and the main reason is sedentary lifestyle, explains Dr. Alexandru Badiu in the interview with journalist Golazo.
“They became more sedentary, they started working from home. The pandemia has changed our lifestyle a lot and I hear often at the office that all this has appeared since it started working from home. That he no longer makes the movement he was doing when he was going to work, that he no longer does the sport he was making with friends at the job and sometimes he does not leave the bedroom or office at all. It works from home and this leads to many other complications, such as hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity and more, ”says Dr. Badiu.
Asked what are the signals of the body to be considered, the doctor gives examples: palpitations that appear suddenly, headaches, hard breathing or low level of effort tolerance.
If none of them appears, the doctor recommends the regular visit to cardiology: “Why? Because hypertension, in over 90% of cases, does not give any symptoms! That is why it is” the silent killer. “
“A cigarette a day increases the risk of heart attack or stroke by 50%!”
Compared to women, men are more prone to higher cardiovascular risks, especially if they are exposed to risk factors such as smoking or alcohol consumption.
“We are more prone because we have an estrogen in smaller amounts in the blood and, in addition, it could be related to our habits, such as men are more often smokers. Excessive alcohol consumption can indeed give in a direct form of cardiopathy, that is, to get the heart muscle. Cardiovascular, ”the cardiologist said.
Dr. Badiu also says that any form of smoking damages, either the classic cigarette, or heated tobacco cigarettes and the risk of stroke or heart attack increases by 50%, if you smoke one cigarette.
“The most important factors are high cholesterol and smoking. At smoking I would like to point out that there is no smoking that does not hurt you. And a cigarette a day increases the cardiovascular risk, that is, the risk of infarct or stroke, by 50%! Of course it increases exponentially if you smoke a package per day. Also related to physical activity and sedentary lifestyle, it is a risk factor.
