The exhibition “The country we come from is reopening. The first 35 years” on the occasion of the most important presidential elections in Romania

The exhibition “The country we come from. The first 35 years”
Since Thursday, May 1, the exhibition is open from 12.00 to midnight, until Sunday, on the day of elections, in a special program, with guided tours and performances in the attic of the house.
The guided tours will be held by Edmond Niculușcă, and the attic performances are concepts by the director Eugen Jebeleanu and the scenograph Velica Panduru. The reopening of the exhibition is a civic gesture and responsibility for the defense of democracy and democratic values. It has not always been part of our lives in Romania and cannot be considered a definitive acquisition anywhere. There were times when the voices of the Romanians were reduced to silence, when we did not really have the right to vote, when it was dangerous to express our opinions and illegally to decide on their own body and destiny. We did not have the freedom to love who we wanted, to oppose the injustice or to build our future according to our own values and desires.

These realities belong to the past, but the present does not guarantee anything. The recent popularity of the Iliberal regimes and the far -right movements is worrying, and the democracy in Romania, hardly built in the years of transition, is also in danger. The installation of these regimes takes place against the background of disappointments, and as easy as it is to reach power by democratic means, it is hard to be reversed, once they have mutilated the foundations of democracy.
The exhibition is dedicated to all those who dared. And which made it possible to pass Romania from totalitarianism to democracy.
