Deputy Szabo Odon (UDMR) rejected, at the first news, the scenario for UDMR to give up the appointment of a CCR judge in favor of the PSD so that the Social Democrats accept the entry to government. Szabo claims that it would be “a mockery” to the Hungarian community “perhaps the most motivated to save the country”.

Asked if it is possible for the UDMR to give up the CCR post in favor of a PSD nomination so that a wide coalition government was constituted, Szabo Odon rejected this scenario.

“Our community since the 1990s, has had a representative at the Constitutional Court (…) In this context, after these elections the Hungarian community was perhaps the most motivated to save this country, in the correct direction, the reward to be left outside the Constitutional Court, I think it would be a mockery,” said UDMR.

Szabo Odon recalled that the position of judge traditionally designated by UDMR at the Constitutional Court represents not only a benefit for the Union, but a guarantee for all the communities of minorities in Romania.

“We, as a community, had a representation, from the 90's, after the period of the mining, on a majority-minority understanding, accepted by all until the moment, a community representation, not political, and that community representation I think is a correct one (…) I gave a message of normality, if we want this normality to continue, then we will go on the same way.

Of the nine judges of the RCC, Attila Varga was appointed by the Chamber of Deputies at the proposal of the UDMR, a formation from which he was deputy in 1990-2012. His mandate expires this year.
