According to the American seismic services, the epicenter of the earthquake was under the ocean 219 kilometers south of the Argentine city of Ushuaia.

Chile authorities issued a warning about the Tsunami and ordered the evacuation of the southern section of the coast. President Chile Gabriel Boric wrote on the website X that it is the duty of the population “to be prepared now and listen to the authorities.”

“We had to evacuate from work, but people are calm and well prepared,” said one of the residents in an interview with a local television reporter.

The Chile Navy Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service announced that the waves could reach Antarctica in an hour, and to areas distant than the epicenter even after 12 hours.

In the Argentine city of Ushuaia, considered the most far away in the world south, navigation was banned for at least three hours. (PAP)
