In the era, when traditional financial reports often get lost in the Lagoon of Information, Bank Credit Agricole in cooperation with the SWPS University in Wrocław focused on an unusual approach to the topic of saving Poles.

The results of several years of research on household budgets and savings habits have become an inspiration for the graphic designer entitled “Generation path in saving”. As the bank's representatives indicate, the goal is to transfer difficult content in an accessible, visual form.

Saving? Difficult challenge nowadays

Research carried out by Credit Agricole has been showing for several years that saving is a difficult challenge for Poles. As emphasized by Katarzyna Kierzkowska, a researcher from Credit Agricole: “The conclusions are that it is difficult to save nowadays. I think it's getting harder.” Although the overall level of Poles' prosperity is assessed as good or moderately good, which should theoretically conducive to putting off money, in practice it looks different. “

Almost 60% of respondents admit that they cannot save as much as they would like, and a third is unable to postpone the funds at this moment. The basic reason indicated by non -saving persons is the lack of current measures. However,, as Katarzyna Kierzkowska adds, a deeper response analysis also indicates motivation issues and difficulties in mobilizing to postpone money.

An interesting discovery of researchers is also how Poles define saving. The most popular answer is … using discounts and promotions, which can be described as saving by spending. Less people mean the actual postponement and accumulation of money, and multiplying funds (e.g. through investments) is the rarely indicated type of saving understanding, regarding only one third of the respondents.

Art as a tool of financial education

Realizing the difficulties in the acquisition of traditional, often “harsh” reports, Credit Agricole was looking for a new way to reach a wider audience. The initiative of SWPS researchers turned out to be an inspiration to present the results of the research in the form of artistic graphics.

“We were looking for new, unusual ways to raise the topic of saving. We were very happy with the proposal of the SWPS University in Wrocław. The idea of interpreting our research in the form of artistic graphics is fresh, unusual. Katarzyna Kierzkowska:

The exhibition “Generation Path in Saving”, prepared by the Legal Center (Communication) Design of the SWPS University and Credit Agricole, is a visual journey through changing financial approaches and budget management over decades. The works of artists, Zuzanna Zysiek and Michał Hadzik, doctoral students at the SWPS University Design Institute, present the differences between traditional and modern saving methods, showing financial habits of the Silver, X, Y and Z.

Generational saving paths

The study showed that financial habits vary significantly depending on age. Older generations
They are definitely more traditional. For them, a popular motive is to put off money “just in case”. These people have different market experiences and economic knowledge, and they have often managed to accumulate some resources. Their needs are also different – they think more often about retirement or treatment costs.

In turn, younger generations, in particular the Z generation, have a more innovative approach to saving. As the researcher indicates, this is a generation that is the only one to admit that parents talked to them about money, which translates into a different level of consciousness and mentality in the approach to finance. Money is important to them and they are not afraid to talk about him.

The Z generation is open to more modern saving methods, such as cryptocurrencies, as well as non -standard and remote forms of money management. They value simplicity, convenience and the opportunity to deal with financial matters online. Although some of them, being only at the threshold of their professional career, may not yet have large resources and keep some money in cash, their openness to new instruments is large.

Interestingly, unlike older generations, a pension is for generation with a topic so distant that at the moment in their “consciousness does not exist”.

“They certainly do not have the phenomenon of saving for retirement. This is a totally abstract abstract phenomenal for them, distant enough that it is hard to imagine it” – he emphasizes it Katarzyna Kierzkowska.

Young people save rather for closer purposes – hobby, self -improvement (courses), as well as for a car,
which appeared much more often as the purpose of saving in this generation than in others.

Bank's mission: Education and support in saving

Credit Agricole has been involved in financial education and promoting conscious budget management for years.

“We have been trying to educate customers for years and simply encourage saving” – explains Agnieszka Gorzkowicz Manager for Corporate Communication of the Bank.

One of the bank's key activities is the animal of the #Challenging saving on Facebook, already with almost 7.5 thousand people. This action was born at the beginning of the pandemic, in response to increased fears about the future and the need to save for closer purposes. This community serves not only inspiration from the bank, but also to exchange experiences and “patents” to save between its members. Topics are raised not only to put off the money, but also to spend wise spending, repair or sell – that is, broadly understood, better budget management.

The “generation path in saving” exhibition is another action that fits into this mission. The exhibition does not give unambiguous answers, but provokes reflection and asking yourself: what is saving for me? The authors of the work emphasize that saving does not have one definition, and the exhibition is a visual and narrative journey showing the evolution of thinking about money – from caution, through planning, to digital flexibility.

The “Generation Path in Saving” exhibition can be viewed at the Gallery of Graphic Arts in Wrocław
until May 7. She was accompanied by a debate “Is saving just money?” In which they took part
Credit Agricole experts and the authors of the exhibition.
