He struggles in Stănescu's son between PNL and PSD. A former mayor for which favorable aisle has been made to come back

In two localities in Olt, the county controlled by Paul Stănescu, Sunday, May 4, 2025, is organized in parallel with the presidential and elections for the town hall. The fight between PSD and PNL is fierce.

“Fresh” candidates for partial local elections 2025, in two communes in Olt county, where they are fighting for mayor who did not compete in the summer of last year. Elections are organized after, in the case of Mihăești, the mayor who won the elections in June 2024 resigned shortly after the investment, and in Iancu Jianu the mayor died. In Mihăești the City Hall is located several mandates under the control of PNL (one of the very few localities in which PNL has a mayor), while in Iancu Jianu City Hall, last year, under the control of PSD.

The candidate following the great return

The county organizations of the main parties in Olt (after the results obtained in elections), PSD and PNL, have focused their forces in this campaign in the two localities where the fight will not be easy. The atmosphere of collaboration at the central level between the members of the ruling coalition has not seen, in fact, in the county, where for the common candidate Crin Antonescu the two parties organize separately electoral actions.

In the commune of Mihăești the citizens are called again to the ballot box to choose the mayor for a strange reason: the one who gave him the most votes in June 2024 resigned shortly after the investment, for personal reasons. The resignation had previously held the position of secretary of the City Hall, and at last year's locals he was a candidate to keep the “hot place” of former mayor Constantin Dobrița (PNL) who had to stay for several years, following a prohibition imposed for reasons of incompatibility. The period in which the former mayor could not be expired, so last year's choice was set aside to the former boss.

In the competition of May 4, 2025, four competitors registered this time, compared to only two last year (last year they candidate Dincă Tomescu – PNL, the one who won and resigned, and Petru Cora – PSD). The voters from Mihăești will find on the ballot for the partial local elections the following names: Dobrița Constantin (PNL), Pîrva Constantin (gold), Stăvaru Alin Florin (PSD) and Ciucardel Florin Cristian (PRM).

Five competitors for Iancu Jianu City Hall

New names, with one exception, are also in the competition in Iancu Jianu, even if we cannot talk about new politicians. Here the elections are organized after the position of the function through the death of the mayor chosen last year, Paulică Munteanu. In Iancu Jianu PNL he held the supremacy a few mandates in a row, until, towards the end of the term 2020-2024, the deceased Mayor Paulică Munteanu left PNL for the PSD.

At this moment the duties of the mayor are fulfilled by Dumitru Ionuț Căluianu (PSD), elected deputy mayor last year. He is, in fact, the PSD candidate for the position of mayor. In the race, five other candidates were registered: Chiosan Nicolae Bogdan (PNL), Udriște George Ghiocel (gold), Stănilă Ovidiu (USR), Predescu Titus (PRM) and Chirtibuși Nicolae (independent candidate).

In Iancu Jianu and last year it was a competition, being four candidates (from PSD, PNL, USR and the strength of the right). Of the candidates last year, only Predescu Titus returned, changing the party (gave USR for PRM).

Partial local elections take place, on Sunday, May 4, 2025, in 17 localities in 13 counties: Căbești commune (Bihor); Rieni commune (Bihor); Avrameni commune (Botosani); Coșula commune (Botosani); The city of Otelu Rosu (Caraș-Severin); Lăpușnicel commune (Caraș-Severin); Valea Ierii commune (Cluj); Limanu commune (Constanța); Gura Ocniței commune (Dâmbovița); Buturugeni commune (Giurgiu); Heleșteni commune (Iași); The city of Ulmeni (Maramureș); Commune Iancu Jianu (Olt); Mihăești commune (Olt); The city of Busteni (Prahova); Zalău municipality (Sălaj); Drăgănești-Vlașca commune (Teleorman).
