An earthquake with magnitude 6.3 occurred on Thursday morning, May 22, 2025, on the island of Crete, Greece, announces the National Institute of Earth Physics.

The earthquake took place at a depth of 77 km (47.85 miles), according to the German Center.
Previously, GFZ had informed that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.5.
All the Greek firefighter brigades were on maximum alert throughout Crete Thursday, after the earthquake outside the island, located in the Mediterranean.
The service has not received any request for assistance so far, the firefighters said
