Nicușor Dan's reaction to the charges of the AEP: “A biased attitude/ there is the suspicion that the document was drained in the press for defamation”

Nicușor Dan's campaign team stated that he did not receive any document from the Permanent Electoral Authority regarding the notification of the Prosecutor's Office for irregularities in the election campaign of the mayor. Dan's campaign staff claims that the document seems a draft of an internal working document.
“We were not communicated to such a document assumed by the Permanent Electoral Authority. The information published in the press seems to be a draft of an internal working document of the AEP, based on subjective and devoid of foundation,” Nicușor Dan's campaign team shows.
“AEP has a biased attitude”
Also, the campaign staff claims that the donations received by Nicușor Dan can be transferred to the campaign account until the end of it.
“The donation platform was opened during the period of electoral precapania. The amount collected by donations during the period of electoral precapania was used to cover the expenses incurred during that period. The amount collected during the election campaign period will be transferred to the campaign account.
The authority is accused of biased attitude, the campaign team claiming that there is the possibility that the AEP has drained the document related to the criminal referral to defame the mayor.
“It is not the first time in this campaign when AEP has a biased attitude. There is a suspicion that this unsigned document has been drained in the press for the purpose of defaming the candidate Nicușor Dan,” the statement said.
The charges in the AEP document
The Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) notified the General Prosecutor's Office of three irregularities found at the election campaign of Nicușor Dan. These include, according to the report obtained by Hotnews, the fact that Nicușor Dan obtained donations worth over 3 million lei (around 650,000 euros), which he did not declare. The publication of the Bulletin de Bucharest also wrote about this topic.
- Hotnews asked for a reaction from Nicușor Dan's communication team regarding the charges brought by the AEP, but until the article published, I received an answer.
The AEP control was carried out between April 4-24, the document obtained by HotNews shows. According to the AEP, three irregularities were found.
1. Money from undeclared donations
According to AEP, Nicușor Dan did not declare 3,263,790 lei collected through the “Stripe” platform.
“Although the aforementioned donations were collected with a clear purpose, namely to support the electoral campaign of the independent candidate Dan Nicușor-Daniel, these donations so far have not been declared to the permanent electoral authority, with reasonable suspicions that these amounts were used from other bank accounts than the authority notified From the diaspora of Mr. Dan Nicușor-Daniel ”, it is shown in the document.
For this, Nicușor Dan can be sanctioned with a warning or a fine between 15,000 and 50,000 lei and risks being confiscated all the amount.
2. He used the City Hall's car to go to events in the campaign
The second irregularity found by the AEP, according to the report sent to the General Prosecutor's Office, Nicușor Dan used the City Hall's service for electoral movements, on April 11, forbidden by law.
In fact, Nicușor Dan publicly acknowledged, in a press conference on April 16, that he did so.
“I am the mayor of Bucharest and I have to go to a debate on a television 19, at 20. Do you think that, leaving the mayor's office, I should go by car or go home and with my personal car to go to the debate? I gave you the answer.
AEP claims that, in fact, the mayor doing this violated Law 334/2006: “His election campaign was financed from funds from a public institution”, the report prepared by the AEP shows.
For this fact, Nicușor Dan can be sanctioned with warning or fine from 10,000 to 25,000 lei, according to AEP.
3. Unauthorized banner
Nicușor Dan is accused of having placed unauthorized banners, at the campaign headquarters on Regina Elisabeta Boulevard, number 38. The deed can be sanctioned with warning or fine from 10,000 to 25,000 lei, according to the document:
- “I found that Mr. Dan Nicușor-Daniel, an independent candidate used electoral propaganda materials other than the types of materials provided by the electoral legislation in force, thus on 05.04.2025 at 16.47 on the windows of the Cișmigiu hotel, located on the Bld. Regina Elisabeta, no. 38, sector 5, Inscribed the slogan “Om honest!”, And in the background was the image of Mr. Dan Nicușor-Daniel.
