Director of the Center for Research of TSU microplasty Julia Frank told why humanity will not be able to completely get rid of microplasty. This is due to the abundance of plastic things, without which “we cannot live now.”
Nevertheless, Julia Frank believes that the amount of microplasty can be minimized. According to her, scientists are already studying technologies that will help to do this and will be economically justified.
As one of the decisions, the expert called the reduction in the use of plastic waste due to new approaches to the treatment of them. We are talking about re -use, processing, collection and storage.
Frank also explained that it is possible to get rid of micro- and nanoparticles entering the environment only by improving the systems of communal effluents. They are able to block the output of microplasty into surface water.
“Interesting, and I always give this example at lectures. Several European companies proposed a solution: individual filters for washing machines, they are installed on a specific device and collect micro -fibers. This is a good example of technologies that can be implemented everywhere, ”RIA Tomsk quotes Frank.
To combat microplasty, scientists connect bacteria, fungi and invertebrates that can absorb it. However, according to Frank, this process does not go so fast as to implement it in practice.
“Plastic is a material alien to the biosphere, living organisms have no enzymes that would allow it to quickly decompose it. This is the problem and the advantage of durable, wear -resistant materials, ”the researcher noted.
Yulia Frank also said that the fact of an excess of microplasty in nature is obvious, nevertheless, it is not yet possible to say definitely about its harm to living beings.
