According to free Europe sources, the decision will be adopted at the level of the European Union ambassadors, with no doubt that the sanctions will be extended.

According to the project, the list of sanctioned persons will be supplemented with new details that highlight the association with the two fugitive oligarchs, including people close to Ilan Șor.

„The non -affiliated deputy Marina Tauber, close to Ilan Șor;

Arina Corșicova, former candidate at Balti City Hall in 2023;

Dumitru Chitoroagă, administrator of television affiliated to Șor;

Neli ParuTenko, the former accountant of the Șor Party, founder of the Evrazia organization;

Maria Albot, the former head of the “Miron Șor” Foundation;

Victor Petrov and Mihail Vlah, deputies of Gagauziei's Basan, Evghenia Guțul ”, according to the quoted source.

Firm support

The Union, through the decision, reaffirms the “firm” support for Chisinau and its resilience in front of the destabilization attempts from some “external actors”.

In February 2024, the EU Council imposed sanctions against six persons and an organization responsible for actions meant to destabilize, undermine and threaten the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova, and the head of the EU diplomacy qualified as “a new important political signal of unwavering support”.

Arina Corșicova, Dumitru Chitoroagă, Maria Albot and Victor Petrov are among the people who have been chosen with sanctions imposed by the European Union, these being among the close ones of the fugitive oligarch Ilan Șor, who, at that time, was hiding from the justice in Chisinau in Israel.

The restrictive measures announced by the EU provided for the data subjects to have an entry prohibition in the Union space, and their assets in the European countries are frozen.

Two fugitives

Currently, the fugitive oligarch Ilan Șor, definitively sentenced to prison in the bank fraud file, is in Moscow. This is considered the Kremlin tool in the destabilization of Chisinau.

And the oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc, who appears in several criminal investigations, including that of the bank fraud was given an international search for interpol earlier this year, the decision being taken after the Moldovan judicial authorities requested the revision of the 2020.

Both are fugitives from summer 2019, the year in which the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), led by Vladimir Plahotniuc, was left without power.
