A court in Chisinau changed from preventive arrest on Wednesday to house arrest against the measure taken against the governor (Başcana) of the Autonomous region Gagauzia in the Republic of Moldova, Evghenia Guţul, which was detained on March 25 for several accusations, including illegal financing of the election campaign, reports the EFE and Presa.

The measure of house arrest, now decided following an appeal, will be applied for a period of 30 days. During this time, Evghenia Guţul, a pro-Russian and opposing politician of the pro-Western president Maia Sandu, will continue to be able to exercise the attributions of governors of the Gagauzi region, according to the decision of the court, which her lawyers will also challenge.

Allied by Ilan Şor, a businessman and a pro-Russian politician sought by Moldovan justice, Evghenia Guţul was detained on March 25 at Chisinau airport, where she was going to Istanbul. The Gagauziei Başcana was initially placed in preventive arrest, against it being formulated accusations such as illegal financing of its election campaign from 2023 and false in public documents. She is also accused in a file of illegal financing of the Şor Party, the formation of Ilan Şor, which was removed outside the law.

Evghenia Guţul has launched calls to Russian presidents, Vladimir Putin, Turkish, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and American, Donald Trump, in which they are arrested and said she was arrested for political reasons.

In a letter to Trump, she mentioned that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, “under the pretext of combating corruption” eliminates the political opposition and restrains the rights and autonomy “of the Gagauz region, while the EU” offers to the central authorities in Chisinau a CEC in white to resort to political repression “.
