Corruption in the European Parliament. Huawei under the magnifying glass of investigators

As a result of searches carried out in mid -March, eight suspects were detained in Belgium and Portugal. The prosecutor's office does not want to reveal their identity, but the media reports that there are several lobbyists working for Huawei.
Three suspects after the initial stay in the custody were released, but remain under electronic supervision, two people were released after the bail, three – they still remain in custody. Two of them have already appealed, the third one still has time for it.
Due to the ongoing investigation, the court authorities do not want to provide further information at this stage.
It is known so far that the Belgian prosecutor's office initiated an investigation in March after reports regarding bribery that Chinese Huawei lobbyists were to commit in the European Parliament.

The scandal was publicized, among others Follow The Money Investigation Portal, which announced that the concern was handing the former and current MEP bribes, including in the form of tickets for football matches, expensive gifts, luxurious travels to China and cash; About 15 politicians were to be found at the “Radar” of investigators. The procedure lasted from 2021. As part of a broadly expanding investigation in the corruption case, the objects were searched for 21 addresses not only in Belgium, but also in Portugal, where a company that was to transfer payments to one or several MEPs is registered.
