“I am honored to receive the Franz Josef Strauss award, offered by the Hanns Seidel Foundation, during my visit to Bavaria. I thank the Bavarian prime minister Markus Söder and the president of the Foundation, Markus Ferber, for the warm hosting.

This award is about recognizing the effort of all Moldovans who, daily, contribute to the strengthening of democracy in our country. It is about all the people in our region who, in the face of challenges, choose courage, truth and peace. This distinction belongs to all those who believe in a European, peaceful and democratic future for Moldova.

As I announced, I decided to donate the sum of 10,000 euros, which accompanies the prize, to keep the musical heritage of our great composer Eugen Doga ”, noted Maia Sandu on Facebook.

The Franz Josef Strauss award is given to international personalities that contribute to promoting democratic values and strengthening peace and freedom in Europe.
