The importance of local supply chains and the key role of ports in ensuring energy security was emphasized by participants of the Polish Ports 2030 Congress in Sopot during Tuesday's discussion. During the meeting, they pointed to the need to develop a long -term industrial strategy for Poland.

The third edition of the Polish Ports 2030 Congress takes place in Sopot. Representatives of the maritime industry talked, among others About the role of ports in building energy security. As emphasized, Polish ports are a key link in the transhipments of energy raw materials, such as gas, oil and its derivatives.
As the representative of Gaz-System Olgierd Hurka noted, the construction of the FSRU terminal is one of the last elements of the critical transmission infrastructure construction.
“This is a 20 -year process that is slowly coming to an end. It has started with a gas terminal in Świnoujście, now we have to reach this process by investing in Gdańsk. How does this system work or is it effective? After stopping deliveries from the east in 2022, we did not have a single day break in gas supplies for Polish companies and households” – emphasized Hurka.
The president of Naftoport Daniel Betke pointed out that over four years, oil and fuel transhipments were increased three times.
“We are currently satisfied with 100 percent of the needs of Polish refinery and a significant part of the demand of 2 German refineries,” he said.
Lena Grupińska from Orlen Neptun analyzed the ways to use the offshore terminal in Świnoujście for the needs of the Orlen group projects. As she said, at the beginning of June the terminal achieved operational readiness.
“This is one of the most modern installations of this type in Europe and the first in Poland. This is a key investment for the entire Orlen group. It will help in the implementation of the strategy, which provides for 2035 reaching 6.4 GW of installed power from seagulls,” she said.
The Vice President of Operational Affairs at PGE Baltica Piotr Dziubałtowski reminded that the company carries out the D5 installation terminal in the Gdańsk port and the operational and service base in Ustka. He emphasized that in the case of investments in Ustka on Local Content consists of 30 contracts. He added that in the PGE strategy PLN 150 billion is to be allocated to Local Content.
Participants of the debate indicated that the implementation of ambitious goals requires an integrated approach and cooperation of many government industries and institutions.
The president of Sea Global Janusz Czajkowski emphasized that Poland still does not have a coherent industrial strategy, which in his opinion is a threat to the long -term economic and energy security of the state.
“We do not know how to set up on the energy market in Poland, we do not know what will be the directions of activities, e.g. state -owned companies,” he said.
He also assessed that the national supply chain is an element of industrial and energy security. “The more local it is, the more safe it is. And in the long run it is also the cheapest. So let's ask ourselves whether we feel safe without having an industrial strategy,” said Czajkowski.
Ocean Managing Director Polska Kacper Kostrzewa Speaking of local supply chains, he argued that investments are needed. “Installation ports are crucial, but service bases are equally important to maintain offshore. The question of what will happen in Władysławowo, this is a very well prepared port, a lot is happening there. Władysławowo requires relatively small investments to be a service port, but this did not happen” – said Kostrzewa.
Panelists agreed that an integrated industrial strategy is needed based on complementary, not competitive solutions – especially in the context of the development of critical infrastructure and cyber security.
The Polish Ports 2030 Congress taking place in Sopot is the third edition of the national conference focused on the seaport sector. The event will last until June 25. (PAP)
