Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski urged the Ukrainians on Easter Sunday not to give up the hope that peace will return to their country and persevere to overcome the difficult way of war, reports Reuters, quoted by Agerpres.

Wearing a traditional Ukrainian shirt and standing in front of the main church in Kiev, Saint Sofia Cathedral, Zelenski said in a video posted on social networks that Ukraine never loses its faith.

“It is the faith of one in the other,” said Zelenski, who is a Jew, in a message full of lyricism and emotion, comments Reuters.

“In those who are with you. In Ukrainian men, in Ukrainian women. The belief that, although evil can prevail, God will eventually come out,” he added.

In a surprising statement, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Saturday a ceasefire in Ukraine for Easter. But Zelenski told Sunday morning that the Russian army only claims a break in hostilities, while continuing at the same time the attempts to cause losses on the front line.

“We know what we are defending. We know what we are fighting for. For whom and for the sake,” Zelenski said.

“The day of life will come. The day of peace. The day of Ukraine. A day that lasts a century. And we will be able to gather together again. At a single meal. To a quiet Easter,” continued the Ukrainian president.
