The announcement was made after a meeting between representatives of Bucharest City Hall, prosecutors, construction specialists, ISU representatives and affected tenants.

According to the municipality, the safety work will start after the completion of the design stage, which will take about 30 days. Afterwards, the consolidation and securing of the building would take place over another 50 days.

The representatives of the Bucharest City Hall explained that the procedure involves the separation of the severely damaged structure from the part of the building that can be saved.

“The procedure involves separating the affected building from the less affected one. The affected part is removed and demolished, and the remaining part is propped up for better support”sent the representatives of the Capital City Hall.

After this stage, tenants in the standing area will be able to enter the apartments to retrieve their documents and possessions deemed important.

Afterwards, a technical expertise will be carried out to determine whether the remaining part of the block can be strengthened or whether it will have to be completely demolished.

Bucharest City Hall stated that not all tenants will be able to return to their apartments.

“Specifically, in about three months, some of the tenants of the block affected by the explosion will be able to enter the apartments to recover their belongings. Unfortunately, not all of them! It is very unlikely that anyone will be able to enter the affected part of the block”it is stated in the institution's press release.

The last stage of the project will be the reconstruction of the block and the restoration of ownership rights for the tenants.

The interim general mayor told the people that the authorities will support them to recover the documents lost following the explosion.

“Your life, that of those accompanying you, is important. The goods can be reassembled. I will speak to the MAI, the Prefecture and all the state authorities to support you in restoring your documents. We will assist you in this endeavor.” stated Ciprian Ciucu.

During the discussions, the tenants asked the authorities for solutions for the recovery of the goods left under the rubble and proposed that the demolition be done in stages, so that recoverable objects can be separated from the rubble.
