This day was named in honor of the two saints – the archbishop of the Euthychia of Constantinople, who lived in the 6th century, and the martyr Jeremiah, who died for faith in the 3rd century.
In Rus' on the Day of Evtichia and Yerema (Jeremiah), they tried the crop of bread. For this we watched the weather; A good sign was the lack of wind. They said: “If Evtichiy quiet – to the harvest of early breads, and when the herema beats with the wind, Kolos will drive”; “The ruff of the span is frozen, the wind is threatened – the spring is not suitable for sowing, you can’t collect seeds.”
