Former Metropolitan of the Krasnoyarsk Diocese Anthony has died

On April 23, at the age of 87, Metropolitan Anthony (Cheremisov), who headed the Krasnoyarsk diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church from 1990 to 2011, died. This was reported by the press service of the Krasnoyarsk diocese.

“From 1990 to 2011, being the ruling bishop at the Krasnoyarsk See (first Krasnoyarsk and Yenisei, and then Krasnoyarsk and Achinsk), Bishop Anthony put incredible effort into increasing the number of parishes, building new churches and strengthening faith in the hearts of Siberians. Evidence of the high recognition of his services to the Fatherland and the Church was the awarding of the title of Honorary Citizen of the city of Krasnoyarsk, as well as numerous church and state awards that he was awarded during the Siberian period of his service,” noted the Krasnoyarsk Metropolis.

The regional governor Mikhail Kotyukov, the regional government and the Legislative Assembly of the region expressed their condolences in connection with the death of the metropolitan.

Metropolitan Anthony (in the world – Ivan Ivanovich Cheremisov) was born on November 6, 1939 in the village. Ternovka, Voronezh region, in a working-class family. In 1957ode entered the Minsk Theological Seminary. In 1965-1968. studied at the Moscow Theological Seminary, then at the Moscow Theological Academy, from which he graduated in 1972ode with a PhD in Theology. He was tonsured a monk with the name Anthony in 1971. IN 1999I was elevated to the rank of archbishop. IN 2014ode His Holiness Patriarch Kirill elevated him to the rank of metropolitan.

Metropolitan Anthony will be buried in Orel.
