According to information provided by the Times of Israel, the incident was the result of an unknown charge that exploded under an engineering vehicle in a zone controlled by the Israeli army. An examination carried out at the scene indicates that the improvised explosive device was planted by Hezbollah.

This is the second death of an Israeli soldier since Friday, when a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into force. A total of 15 Israeli soldiers have been killed since the beginning of the new phase of hostilities in Lebanon, i.e. at the beginning of March.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Saturday that a French soldier serving in the UN mission (UNIFIL) died in Lebanon that day. Three other French soldiers were injured. In Macron's assessment, “everything indicates that Hezbollah was behind this attack.”

On the night from Thursday to Friday (April 16-17), a truce came into force, ending Israel's attacks on Lebanon and the pro-Iranian terrorist organization Hezbollah, which had been ongoing for several weeks. 2,294 people died in Israeli attacks on Lebanon, the Ministry of Health in Beirut reported on Friday. The Israeli army said it had killed about 1,700 Hezbollah fighters. (PAP)
