Free public transport every Friday: The city in Romania that introduced the measure

Travelers can travel without a ticket in this city every Friday. The free service came into effect at the beginning of this month and could be extended to other localities in the future, the authorities say.
Brașov has implemented this measure since April 1, through the “Green Friday” program, to encourage the use of buses and trolleybuses instead of personal cars, according to Observator News.
Sorin Toarcea, the spokesperson of the City Hall, explains: “Our strategy is to transform public transport into the main mobility solution within the city”. The measure applies in the city and towards Poiana Brașov, being intended for both locals and tourists.
“We are trying to give them the opportunity, at least at the beginning, to test what public transport means”, added Toarcea. This program is to be introduced in other localities.
The cost of the initiative is estimated between 1.6 and 1.7 million lei, an amount covered from the local budget to reduce congestion and pollution.
People consider the measure useful: “Traffic is clearing up, it's very congested,” says a woman. Another resident of Brasov adds that the program is also a support for those with low incomes or pensioners, especially in the context of the high price of fuel.
