Starmer blames Trump and Putin for energy crisis

According to him, the impact on the British of the military operation initiated by the US and Israel and Tehran's retaliatory strikes is “obvious”. He pointed out that closing the Strait of Hormuz threatens the energy security of the kingdom, just like previous actions of the Russian Federation.

“I'm fed up with families all over the country seeing their energy bills go up and down, businesses' energy bills going up and down, because of the actions of Putin or Trump around the world,” he said, likely referring to the decline in energy prices following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Starmer avoided commenting on Trump's threat, made before the April 8 ceasefire, that if Iran did not open the strait, “an entire civilization would perish.” The British Prime Minister only noted that these are “not the words that he would use.”

Starmer also criticized Israel, which continues to strike Lebanon in defiance of the truce.
