Ukraine has confirmed that it has mined a large part of its border with the Republic of Moldova

The Transnistrian region, on the territory of which a Russian contingent is located, could be used by Russia for simulated strikes behind the front in Ukraine, destroying logistics, which is why defense actions are being taken on the border of Ukraine with the Republic of Moldova, on the Transnistrian segment, including mining operations and the deployment of additional units of border guards, said Ukrainian presidential adviser Mihailo Podoliak, reports NewsMaker, IPN and Deschide.md, quoted by Agerpres.

Information to this effect had recently appeared in a Ukrainian publication, which then withdrew it from its web page. The Moldovan vice-premier for reintegration Alexandru Flenchea commented that “Ukraine has every right to maintain the respective border segment in increased defense capacity”.

Podoliak, adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, explained in an intervention on a television station in Chisinau that Ukraine is considering the possibility of Russia using the Transnistrian region to create additional pressure on the Ukrainian army.

He said that the measures taken are necessary to prevent possible destabilizing actions by Russia, which has troops and weaponry in Transnistria.

Ukraine has strengthened its security measures on the border with the Republic of Moldova

In addition to mining actions, Podoliak noted that the Ukrainian authorities have decided to strengthen border control, with additional detachments of border guards being deployed, which carry out additional control in the area.

According to the Ukrainian presidential adviser, the border crossing points on the Transnistrian segment have not been functional for several years, when Russia took control of the Transnistrian region, that is, since 1990-1991.

Podoliak said, however, that the area still requires close monitoring so that Russia cannot use sabotage groups and provoke ground action, destroying logistics.

In the “Shadow Cabinet” show on Jurnal TV, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Chiveri said on Thursday that he learned about these measures by Kiev from the press. Chiveri said he did not know more details.

“(…) Ukraine has every right and not only the right, but also the interest to maintain the segment of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, on this segment, in an increased defense capacity”, said the Moldovan official, quoted by NewsMaker.
