American actor Mark Ruffalo took advantage of the Golden Globes gala to launch a virulent attack on President Donald Trump and the broader political situation in the United States, reports Variety magazine.

Ruffalo, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for best actor in a motion picture drama thanks to the HBO Max series “Task,” stopped on the red carpet and pointed out to reporters from USA Today that the awards show comes just days after the death of Renee Good, the woman fatally shot by ICE agents in Minneapolis.

The 58-year-old actor was among the celebrities who wore a badge with the message “Be Good”, a pun and tribute to the woman whose death last week was widely reported in the US.

“It's for Renee Nicole Good, who was murdered,” Ruffalo said of the badge he was wearing, before criticizing Vice President JD Vance and other politicians who defended the ICE agent who shot the woman three times at close range. Vance and others said the agent acted in self-defense “We have a vice president who is lying about what's going on,” Mark Ruffalo said.

“We are in the middle of a war with Venezuela, which we invaded illegally. [Trump] he tells the whole world that international law does not matter to him. The only thing that matters to him is his own morality,” Ruffalo continued, referring to Trump's statements to The New York Times that his own morality and his own mind are the only things that can stop him when it comes to actions on the international stage.

Ruffalo says America has lost its course

“The guy is a convicted felon,” Ruffalo said of Trump. “He is the most terrible human being. If we rely on this guy's morality for the most powerful country in the world, then we all have a big problem. So this is for [Renee]. This is for the people of the United States who are terrorized and scared today. I know I am one of them. I love this country, and what I see happening here is not America,” continued the 4-time Oscar nominee.

Asked why it was important to deliver a political message while attending the Golden Globes, Ruffalo said: “Look, I'd like to pretend it's like this — I just want to be here to celebrate, and I'm here to celebrate, and I'm proud of my Golden Globe nomination. But at the same time, it's not normal anymore, and I don't know how I can keep quiet, and now I feel a little bad, so it's hard to steam someone”.

Ruffalo ultimately did not win the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Series, which went to Noah Wyle for his performance in “The Pitt: The Hospital,” another HBO production.

Jean Smart, Natasha Lyonne and Wanda Sykes also wore “Be Good” badges at the Globes in an effort coordinated by the non-governmental organization American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
