Bucharest was under the waters, on Friday night, after a full day in which it rained continuously, being in effect the weather warnings of heavy rainfall and strong wind. Several streets were flooded, trees put to the ground, and in the North Station and in a subway station it simply rained from the ceiling. There were also deviated flights, due to the weather, at Otopeni Airport. At the national level, the effects of hydrometeorological phenomena have been felt in 14 counties.
ISUBIF firefighters managed 78 interventions in Bucharest and Ilfov, on Friday, between 14 and 18, after the storm in the Capital:
- 49 for fallen trees;
- 18 for construction elements detached;
- 5 for affected electrical cables.
ISU Bucharest-Ilfov said that 18 cars were damaged. Two of the cases took place on the Boulevards Constantin Brâncoveanu and Nicolae Grigorescu, where the trees fell on two cars.
Also, on several streets in Bucharest the traffic was blocked or difficult due to large water accumulations, according to images that have circulated on social networks.
Ilfov him, the firefighters managed six interventions:
- 4 for fallen trees;
- 2 for separated construction elements.
Problems were also in the North Railway Station in the Capital, and on the subway, where the rain entered the roof.
Disturbed flights because of the weather
The National Airports Company Bucharest announced that two planes that were to land at Otopeni Airport, on the outskirts of the capital, were redirected to other airports, Agerpres reports.
The Tarom 276 Saloniki – Bucharest race landed at the Airport in Sibiu, while the Wizzair 3004 – Bucharest race landed in Craiova.
“At this moment, the aircraft take off and land at Henri Coandă airport, but delays can be registered due to adverse weather conditions. Fills, platforms and aircraft running are open and operational, with the conditions for carrying out air operations,” said CNAB.
Problems in 14 counties
Effects of hydrometeorological phenomena were recorded in 49 localities in 14 counties (AG, BR, BZ, CS, DJ, DB, GR, HD, IL, IF, OT, PH, T and VN) and the municipality of Bucharest, the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said in a statement sent on Friday night.
“The intervention forces acted to evacuate the water from 21 courts, 5 houses, 4 cellars/basements from public institutions and economic agents and from 2 streets, to remove some elements of construction dislocated from the roofs of 63 buildings, as well as for the release of 237 trees and 4 pillars of electricity, it was 141. Conscious, transported to the hospital with different trauma (Bucharest), ”said IGSU.
Due to the falls of stones on the road, the road traffic has been difficult on a national road (DN 57A/CS). On a county road (DJ 204B/VN) was temporarily blocked due to a tree collapsed.
The ports of Constanța Nord, Constanța Sud, Midia and Bara Sulina are closed.
IGSU says that the effects registered in Bucharest were “significant”, as follows:
- In Sector 3, on Splaiul Unirii, a tree collapsed over a car in which there were two people, which resulted in a conscious victim, with minor trauma, who was transported to the hospital for further investigations.
- Also, a tree collapsed over a traveling car, in which there was a person on Luică street, sector 4. Following the event, the person did not need medical care.

“The rescuers are in the field and continue to fight to remove the effects produced by the forecast hydrometeorological phenomena, in several counties in the country and in the municipality of Bucharest. People taken by surprise by winter conditions
The mountain gendarmes from Hunedoara intervened for five people who were snowy with cars on Friday night in Pârâng.
In one of the cases, two employees of a cottage in the area remained with the car blocked by the niece area. Due to the weather, they had to descend on the floor, accompanied by gendarmes.
The gendarmerie said that when they went down to Hotel Rusu they met another group, consisting of three people, who were stuck in the snow. These are three tourists from Timiș county.
The gendarmes helped them remove the car from the area where it was stuck and continued to travel to the Hotel Rusu area.
