The US used secret lasers, confusing the balls with the drones of the Mexican cartels – WSJ

Earlier, on the evening of February 10, the FAA closed the airspace around El Paso Airport in Texas for 10 days, without warning the Pentagon, the White House, or the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The US administration announced it was taking military measures against drones of the “Mexican cartels” that crossed the country’s airspace.

A few hours later the restrictions were lifted. The FAA and the Pentagon have not identified a threat to civilian flights.

It turned out that at least three of the downed objects were not drones, but balloons, two sources familiar with the investigation told the WSJ.

The incident is attributed to a misunderstanding between the Pentagon, FAA and DHS.
